WINERY
“Il Querciolo” is an ancient farm located in Valdichiana, in Badicorte, in the municipality of Marciano della Chiana. Today an entirely organic farm that produces legumes, cereals, oil and wine Syrah.
Our farm was founded in 1958 when Cesare Lecci moved to Val di Chiana from Valdarno and in Badicorte bought the manor house, some land and the “Podere Il Querciolo”. Our hills were immediately cultivated with cereals and sunflower following conventional farming methods. Later, Annagiulia, her daughter, and Luciano, her husband, maintained and cared for the company, buying land or, whenever possible, merging existing plots to optimize the work. Today the company, managed by Cesare, the son of Luciano and Annagiulia, covers about 65 Ha of land of which about 4 Ha of vineyards of only Syrah and 1 Ha of olive groves.
Since February 2019, conventional agriculture has been abandoned by choosing to manage the land with organic practices. The olive groves are all covered to combat droughts in recent years due to climate change. The vineyards are all in Badicorte and are also managed with organic practices, reducing to the maximum the use of Copper and Sulfur, the only products used, when needed, for treatments on plants.
We work the land always preferring long rotations with legumes and alfalfa with the unique objective of leaving our children a better campaign than we found it.
CELLAR AND VINEYARDS
The winery was founded in 2017 in an underground warehouse of the farm. At the moment we produce about 4000 bottles per year with two wines produced only with Syrah grapes. We hope to reach quickly our maximum production of about 9000 bottles. We only vinify our grapes harvested by hand in our 4 hectares of vineyards.
The harvest is done manually in September, using small boxes for the transport of the grapes in the cellar. The grapes are processed in our cellar with the aim of maintaining the aromas and aromas typical of the variety. Without the addition of external chemical agents, we want our wines to be every time an expression of the climate and seasons of our land.
We produce the “Gruccione” Syrah (about 2500 bottles per year) and “Occhio di Civetta” Syrah, both classified as IGT SYRAH TUSCANY. Soon we will also have a rosé that we will produce in about 1500 bottles a year.
We adhere as a winery to the Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti (FIVI) whose logo of recognition is found in all our bottles.
